Enterprise And Supplier Development (ESD)
Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) sits at the heart of both the Social and Labour Plan's Local Economic Development Programme and the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice — and it is one of the most direct mechanisms through which mining and manufacturing companies can demonstrate meaningful economic participation by host communities.
By providing targeted financial and non-financial support to local, historically disadvantaged-owned SMEs, companies fulfil their procurement and enterprise development obligations, while simultaneously strengthening the Social pillar of their ESG framework. The result is a supply chain that is not only more inclusive and resilient, but one that generates lasting local employment, and builds portable business skills.
Our Structured 4-Stage Methodology:
Stage 1 - Assessment
Comprehensive evaluation of current B-BBEE scorecard, gaps in local supplier representation, capacity and readiness of existing local SMEs in host communities.
Stage 2 - Strategy Development
Customised ESD strategy aligning preferential procurement targets and broader operational objectives, ensuring local supplier development serves both business and community.
Stage 3 - Implementations
Hands-on support to selected local enterprises including business skills training, financial literacy, mentorship, and wrap-around operational guidance to meet corporate standards.
Stage 4 - Monitoring and Reporting
Tracking progress using clear, defined performance metrics and providing transparent reporting satisfying B-BBEE verification agencies, the DMRE, and ESG auditors.

Socio-Economic Development (SED) — Community Investment Programmes
The SLP's LED Programme and the B-BBEE Codes' Socio-Economic Development (SED) element address overlapping community investment obligations from different regulatory angles.
